Ethics and Values Book - Summary
Ethics and values are fundamental guidelines for conduct that help us understand morality and make decisions. They provide the principles and ideals essential for judging what truly matters in life. This is especially important as the Odisha Government Education Department has recently introduced a new subject, Ethics and Values, for Undergraduate (UG) students to enhance their moral education.
Introduction to the Ethics and Values Book
The Odisha State Higher Education Council has put together a comprehensive syllabus for the Ethics and Values subject. This syllabus is broken down into 6 units, with each semester of the three-year UG program concentrating on one unit.

Moral education, which emphasizes ethics and values, greatly influences students’ social thinking. It assists them in distinguishing between right and wrong. In our fast-paced world, where there is a growing concern about the decline in moral values, moral education has become a necessity. It plays a vital role in promoting diversity, tolerance, mutual respect, and understanding among different cultures.
Moral values are our beliefs about living a good life. Consequently, important moral virtues like honesty, responsibility, and respect for others are crucial to moral education. As young people are easily influenced by both positive and negative factors, it is essential for society to provide them with guidance that embeds sound ethical principles. This education will empower them to adopt positive attitudes and values, enabling them to make wise and informed choices as they transition into adulthood.
