ICPS Scheme - Summary

The ICPS scheme PDF is a key initiative by the Government of India designed to enhance the safety and well-being of children, focusing particularly on those who need care and protection, juveniles facing legal issues, and other vulnerable groups. The main goal of this program is to establish a centralized framework that ensures consistent oversight and improvement of current and new child protection schemes across India. Introduced in 2006 and rolled out in 2009, the ICPS is managed at the state level by child protection committees and societies, and at the district level by district child protection societies, among other bodies.

Understanding the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS)

The Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) is primarily aimed at enforcing the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000, which was later updated to the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, effective from 15th January 2016. In addition, the state has set up a Juvenile Justice Fund to provide necessary resources and facilities for juveniles. The core purpose of the ICPS is to create a safe and secure environment for children who are in conflict with the law, as well as for those who require care and support.

Key Features of the ICPS Scheme

Under the umbrella of the Integrated Child Development Services scheme, the Ministry manages a centrally sponsored Child Protection Services (CPS) scheme, formerly known as ICPS. This initiative aims to assist children in difficult situations across all states and Union Territories (UTs). Additionally, the government has launched Mission Vatsalya to effectively tackle various challenges facing children today.
