Introduction
Pearl Sydenstricker Buck was a renowned American writer and novelist. Growing up as the daughter of missionaries, she spent most of her early life in China before 1934. Her novel “The Good Earth” was the best-selling fiction in 1931 and 1932, and in 1938, she was honoured with the Nobel Prize in Literature “for her truly epic descriptions of peasant life in China and for her biographical masterpieces.”
On 30th January 1948, India experienced the tragic assassination of Mahatma Gandhi at the Birla House in New Delhi, where Naturam Vinayak Godse took his life. Gandhi’s most powerful weapon was non-violence. His teachings and way of life inspired many across the globe, leading civil rights and freedom movements around the world. Even Pearl S. Buck was among those inspired by him. She beautifully expressed, “Mahatma Gandhi came and stood at the door of India’s destitute millions, clad as one of themselves.”

Introduction
Chief Seattle (circa 1780—June 7, 1866) was a leader of the Duwamish tribe, Native Americans from western Washington and metropolitan Seattle. In 1854, the Government of the United States made a proposal to buy a large area of Indian land, suggesting a ‘reservation’ for the Native people. Chief Seattle responded with a profound prose passage called ‘The End of Living and the Beginning of Survival,’ which remains an inspiring statement about the environment and its issues.
There is considerable controversy surrounding Chief Seattle’s 1854 speech, with various versions, conflicting details, and debates over its authenticity.
