Students’ Learning Enhancement Guidelines - Summary
Union Education Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ recently introduced the Students’ Learning Enhancement Guidelines in New Delhi. During this event, the Minister emphasized how, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, educational institutions worked together to ensure that school education reached children at home through digital methods.
Understanding the Students’ Learning Enhancement Guidelines
To meet the challenges posed by the pandemic, NCERT has crafted the Students’ Learning Enhancement Guidelines as directed by the Ministry of Education. These guidelines aim to respond to today’s educational needs and future learning scenarios.
The Minister explained that these guidelines present models appropriate for three critical situations:
- When students have no digital resources;
- When students have limited access to digital resources;
- When students can effectively use digital resources for online learning.
Importance of Community Engagement in Education
The guidelines highlight the vital role of community involvement in education. They recommend that local teachers and volunteers distribute learning materials, such as workbooks and worksheets, directly to students’ homes. Furthermore, it is advised that volunteers or teachers conduct lessons using televisions at community centers while maintaining social distancing.
Minister Pokhriyal also mentioned that the guidelines propose establishing a helpline at community centers, supported by local community members and Panchayati Raj institutions. This helpline aims to assist parents in guiding their children’s learning. Additionally, for all three situations mentioned, implementing the Alternative Academic Calendar is encouraged.
