NHAI 10 Second Fastag Rule / Guidelines - Summary

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has rolled out new guidelines aimed at enforcing the 10-second Fastag rule, which mandates that toll operators must ensure a maximum service time of ten seconds per vehicle. This measure is part of NHAI’s efforts to promote efficiency and reduce waiting times at toll plazas across the country.

Understanding the 10-Second Fastag Rule

If a four-wheeler vehicle is delayed for more than ten seconds at the toll booth, then that vehicle will not have to pay the toll fee. This initiative is intended to enhance the experience of drivers by ensuring they can pass through toll points quickly.

The 10-second Fastag rule will remain in effect even during the busy peak hours at toll plazas, thus guaranteeing smooth movement of vehicles. This decision is crucial for maintaining flow and reducing congestion, especially when more people are on the road.

Ensuring Smooth Traffic Flow at Toll Plazas

Along with the 10-second Fastag rule, NHAI’s new guidelines will help maintain a seamless flow of traffic at toll plazas. They will restrict vehicles from queuing beyond 100 meters. In most cases, with the full implementation of Fastag, there should be no waiting time. However, if there is a queue extending beyond 100 meters due to unforeseen circumstances, vehicles will still be allowed to pass through without paying a toll until the queue shortens to within 100 meters of the toll booth.

To assist in this regulation, a yellow line will be marked 100 meters away from each toll booth in the toll lanes. This visual cue aims to increase accountability among toll plaza operators and ensure adherence to the guidelines.
