In today’s Covid-19 pandemic, teachers, parents, and students are required to stay at home to help prevent its spread in the community. During this challenging time, it’s our duty to offer various alternative ways of learning at home through engaging activities. This is crucial because, amidst the current stress, we need to keep our children occupied while ensuring they continue to learn in their new classes. To address these needs, the NCERT has introduced an Alternative Academic Calendar for Primary Students.

Exploring the NCERT Alternative Academic Calendar

This calendar includes themes and topics drawn from the syllabus, all linked with specific learning outcomes. Clear guidelines have been provided to facilitate fun and interactive activities based on these outcomes. However, many teachers and parents may only have access to simple mobile phones, and not everyone can utilize virtual classrooms. Therefore, the activities are thoughtfully designed so that parents and students can conduct many of them independently after discussing them with their teachers over the phone. Teachers can reach out to parents and students using a variety of tools, from basic mobile phones to internet-based technologies, to provide the necessary guidance for carrying out the activities outlined in the calendar.

Flexible and Suggestive Framework

This calendar is meant to be flexible and suggestive. Teachers can tailor it according to the specific needs and contexts of their respective States/UTs. The valuable contributions to this calendar come from faculty members across all NCERT’s constituent units, including NIE, CIET, PSSCIVE, and all five RIEs. They collaborated through online platforms like WhatsApp, Google Hangout, and Zoom for discussions and feedback. Their dedication and hard work are truly commendable.
