Janaganamana, the national anthem of India. This is the first part of a Bengali anthem written by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.Sung for the first time at the Indian National Congress meeting on 27 December 1911 in Calcutta.In January 1912 the song was published by the magazine “Tatva Bhodini” under the title “Bharata Vidhata”.
In 1912, Tagore’s niece Sarla Devi Chowdhury performed with a group of school children in front of prominent Congress members such as Indian National Congress President Bishan Narayan Dhar and Ambika Charan Mazumdar. The first stanza of this song Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly as the National Anthem on 24th January 1950.
