Fire and Blood
Fire & Blood is a fantasy book by American writer George R. R. Martin and illustrated by Doug Wheatley. It tells the history of House Targaryen, the dynasty that ruled the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros in the backstory of his series A Song of Ice and Fire. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.
Fire & Blood Was Originally Supposed To Be Included In A Song Of Ice And Fire, But The Manuscript Was Removed And Instead Made Into A Standalone Book That, I Believe, Was The Best Decision Since This Is A Lengthy Read That Seems Like A History Book. If It Had Been In Another Novel, The Pace Would Have Been Slower. What’s Incredible Is How Much Martin Wrote And How Much Bigger The Fire And Ice Book Would Have Been If They Hadn’t Removed The Original Manuscript.
Fire and Blood Book Summary
Fire And Blood Focuses On The Targaryen Family’s History From 300 Years Before The Events Of The First Book. They Are The First Family To Be Formed After Westeros Was United And Ruled By A Single Ruler. We Follow The Rise And Fall Of The Family That Laid The Groundwork For The Rest Of Westeros. Martin Delves Into Legendary Battles And Famous Targaryen Figures We’ve Heard About But Never Seen In Detail.
What Makes Fire And Blood Interesting Is The Emphasis On Dragons. Dragons Were Owned And Ridden By The Targaryen Family. Their Rule Was Brutal, And Their Victory Card Was The Power And Fear Of Dragons. I Really Like All Of The Dragons Introduced In The Book, And It Finally Seemed Like Martin Had Written A Book About Dragons.
While The Book Has Received A Lot Of Criticism, I Really Enjoyed Reading It. I Really Enjoyed It And Was Glad To Finally Learn About The Targaryen Family, Who Are Both Revered And Feared In The Game Of Thrones. The Stories Are Epic, And Knowing The History Of Westeros And The Targaryens Helps In Understanding The Overall Plotline And How Things Came To Be As They Are.
