Form 20 - Summary
Form 20 PDF is essential for applying for a permanent registration number when you buy a new vehicle. After getting a temporary registration from your dealer, you have to fill out RTO Form 20 within one month to obtain your permanent registration number. This important step proves your ownership and helps with the resale process of your vehicle.
Understanding Form 20
For transport vehicles, registration requires specific details, including gross vehicle weight, axle weight, dimensions, and tire specifications. The registration certificate for automobiles is valid for 15 years, but for transport vehicles, it remains valid until the Fitness Certificate is in effect.
Form 20 – Details to be Mentioned
- In points 1, 2, and 3, mention your name, father’s name, and age at the time of filling out the form. If you live at a temporary or official address, include that in points 4 and 5, along with how long you’ve stayed there.
- In point 6, enter your permanent account number (PAN). You can skip this if your vehicle costs below Rs 4 lakh.
- Mention your place of birth and year of migration to India in points 7 and 8 if you were born outside India.
- Point 10 requires the date and address of the dealer from whom you bought your vehicle. For army or imported vehicles, attach the design approval from the State Transport Authority and include the number and date of approval in point 11.
- In point 12, describe the class of the vehicle. In point 13, state if it is new, ex-army, imported, or an E-rickshaw.
