India Report Digital Education - Summary
The India Report Digital Education highlights the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which ensures that every child aged 6 to 14 years receives free and compulsory elementary education at a nearby school. This universal access to education is crucial for developing a knowledgeable society.
Efforts During the Pandemic
During the pandemic, the Ministry of Education took significant steps to support children, providing remote access to education. These initiatives cater to every category of students, including SC/ST, regardless of their region or economic background. The aim was to ensure that no child’s education was hampered due to the circumstances.
Digital Education Initiatives
A comprehensive initiative named PMeVidya has been launched to unify all efforts related to digital, online, and on-air education. This initiative enables multi-mode access to education, ensuring that every child can continue learning.
PMeVidya incorporates various digital modes for broader access. It includes platforms like DIKSHA (online), SWAYAM (online), and SWAYAM PRABHA (TV), as well as other educational TV channels using Doordarshan and AIR Networks. Additionally, the PRAGYATA guidelines were shared with States/UTs to enhance continued education through various channels.
The PRAGYATA guidelines provide solutions for scenarios where internet connectivity is limited or unavailable. Resources are shared through non-internet-dependent platforms like television and radio. An Alternate Academic Calendar has also been developed to facilitate learning for grades 1 to 12, accommodating both children with and without devices. This includes community radio, the distribution of worksheets and textbooks, home visits by teachers, community classes, and toll-free support numbers.
