World Ozone Day 2025 theme - Summary
World Ozone Day, celebrated on September 16th each year, is a significant global event focused on raising awareness about the vital role of the ozone layer and the urgent need to protect it. This day is particularly special as we remember the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987. This important international treaty was established to eliminate the production and use of substances harmful to the ozone layer.
Understanding the Theme of World Ozone Day
This year’s World Ozone Day (WOD) theme—”Montreal Protocol: fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change”—highlights our responsibility to continue building on the tremendous benefits for both ozone and climate that have already been achieved under the Montreal Protocol. We must passionately aim to meet the goals of the Kigali Amendment by reducing HFC production and usage.
