World Ozone Day 2025 theme - Summary
World Ozone Day, celebrated on September 16th each year, is an important global event aimed at raising awareness about the critical role of the ozone layer and the urgent need to protect it. This day holds special significance as we commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987. This vital international treaty was created to eliminate the production and use of substances that harm the ozone layer, ensuring a healthier planet for future generations.
Understanding the Theme of World Ozone Day
This year’s World Ozone Day (WOD) theme—”Montreal Protocol: fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change”—reminds us of our duty to keep building on the enormous benefits we have already achieved for both the ozone and the climate through the Montreal Protocol. We should aim passionately to meet the Kigali Amendment’s goals by reducing HFC production and usage.
World Ozone Day offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the successes and recent advancements under the Montreal Protocol. It encourages public support for national compliance strategies among everyone, including essential stakeholders.
Celebrating Global Achievements
Now that the COVID-19 pandemic is officially over, countries can fully engage in WOD and promote awareness of the Montreal Protocol’s achievements to a larger audience.
