PMKVY Guidelines
The Scheme was subsequently launched on 15 July, 2015, on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day by Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. PMKVY is implemented by National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) under the guidance of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
PMKVY Success Story
The success of PMKVY depends on how one defines success. Here are some key achievements and challenges of the flagship program of Narendra Modi government:
Achievements:
- As of September 2021, over 1.25 crore (12.5 million) candidates have been trained under PMKVY across India.
- PMKVY has enabled more than 55% of the trained candidates to get jobs or become self-employed.
- The program has helped in increasing the employability of the youth and bridging the skills gap in the country.
- PMKVY has increased the participation of women and people from economically weaker sections in skill development programs.
Challenges:
PMKVY has faced challenges in terms of ensuring the quality of training and certification, with reports of poor infrastructure and inadequate trainers in some training centers. The program has faced criticism for being too focused on short-term training and placement, rather than on long-term skill development and career progression.
The pandemic has affected the training and placement of candidates under PMKVY, as many training centers were closed and job opportunities reduced. Overall, PMKVY has made significant strides in skilling the youth and increasing their employability. However, there is still room for improvement, particularly in terms of ensuring quality training and long-term skill development.
