Exciting Tales in Bengali Literature
As she begins to weave fabric with a soft sound, কোয়ান্সা rushes inside and grabs her hand, asking, “Who are you? Where did you come from? How did you learn to weave cloth? And where did you get the designs of these flowers?” The girl, taken aback, replies, “I am হামব্রুমাই, the daughter of হামব্রুফৈদের. I live in কামলাঙ. The ancient spirit, নিম, has taught me how to weave. As for the flower designs, I take inspiration from the waves of the river, the bubbles in the water, the beauty of the mountains, and the foliage around me. I have woven flowers into the cloth by observing the vibrant colors of the sky, the play of clouds, and the glitter of fish scales.”
In another tale, in a big pond lived three important fish named অনাগতবিধাতা, প্রত্যুৎপন্নমতি, and যদ্ভবিষ্য, who had lived together for many days. One day, while swimming, অনাগতবিধাতা overhears fishermen chatting about how they had not caught any fish from the pond for years and plan to come back the next morning to catch them. Alarmed, he gathers all the fish and explains the fishermen’s plan, urging them to leave immediately to avoid danger.
Upon hearing him, প্রত্যুৎপন্নমতি agrees, stating that especially those who have a way to survive should not risk dying without a cause. However, যদ্ভবিষ্য laughs and says, “Why worry? Death will come at its own time, whether we stay or leave. Sometimes, those who try to escape perish, while others survive even in danger.” Ignoring the warnings of his friends, যদ্ভবিষ্য chooses to stay put. The next morning, as expected, the fishermen come and catch all the fish, leaving যদ্ভবিষ্য behind. Thus, it is a reminder that we must always be cautious and heed warnings, as life is uncertain.
