The AGNIPATH scheme is a groundbreaking initiative in the Indian Armed Forces that allows selected candidates to be enlisted as Agniveers for a duration of four years. Upon completing this period, Agniveers will emerge as disciplined, dynamic, motivated, and skilled individuals, ready to contribute to society and pursue their chosen careers. This scheme opens up a path for young Indians who wish to serve their country and gain experience in the Armed Forces for a limited time.

After the completion of their engagement, Agniveers may have the chance to apply for permanent enrolment in the Armed Forces, based on the needs of the organization. Of those, up to 25% will be accepted into regular Army positions.

- The age limit for applicants is from 17 ½ years to 23 years. The 1st day of October of the recruiting year (01 April – 31 March) will be used to determine age eligibility.
- Candidates must meet the medical eligibility requirements set for enrolment in the Armed Forces, which vary by category and trade.
- For candidates under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must sign the enrolment form in line with existing regulations.
- They will receive suitable military training according to organisational needs.
- Agniveers can be assigned to any regiment or unit and may be transferred as necessary for the organisation’s interests.
- Each candidate is eligible for up to 30 days of annual leave, and sick leave will depend on medical advice.
- Upon discharge after four years, the Government of India will match a corpus of ₹5.02 lakhs, resulting in a total of ₹10.04 lakhs plus accrued interest, provided to the Agniveers.
- Each Agniveer will be offered two options for the Seva Nidhi package, aimed at supporting financial loans for self-employment and to cover immediate expenses upon exit. Detailed information will be shared separately.
- Agniveers will receive a non-contributory life insurance coverage of ₹48 lakhs during their engagement period but will not be eligible for the Army Group Insurance Fund (AGIF) schemes or benefits.

इंडियन एयरफोर्स ने अग्निवीरों की भर्ती की गाइडलाइन जारी कर दी है। तीनों सेनाओं में सबसे पहले एयरफोर्स ने ही गाइडलाइन जारी की है। इसके अनुसार अग्निवीरों को अपनी चार साल की नौकरी पूरी करनी होगी। इससे पहले वह फोर्स नहीं छोड़ सकेंगे। ऐसा करने के लिए उन्हें अधिकारी की सहमति लेनी होगी।
