2024 సంవత్సరంలో ఏప్రిల్ 13వ తేదీన మంగళవారం ఉగాది పర్వదినాన్ని జరుపుకోనున్నారు. హిందూ పంచాంగం ప్రకారం, ప్రతి సంవత్సరం చైత్ర శుద్ధ పాడ్యమి రోజున ఈ ఉగాది ఉత్సవాన్ని జరుపుకుంటారు. Ugadi, also known as Kannada and Telugu New Year, is celebrated primarily by the Hindus of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and parts of Maharashtra on the first day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Chaitra.
Ugadi day is observed by drawing colourful patterns on the floor (Rangoli), hanging mango leaf decorations on doors, buying and giving gifts, and preparing and sharing a special dish called ‘pachadi’, which combines all flavours – sweet, sour, salty, bitter.The day starts with devotees taking a ritualistic bath which is followed by prayers. To mark the joyous occasion people decorate the entrance of their houses with torans of flowers/mango leaves and rangoli.

- ఉగాదిని హిందూ చాంద్రమాన క్యాలెండర్ లోని చైత్ర మాసం మొదటి రోజున నిర్వహించుకుంటారు. గ్రెగోరియన్ క్యాలెండర్ ప్రకారం ఈ సంవత్సరం ఏప్రిల్ 9 న ఉగాది వచ్చింది. ఉగాది పండుగను భారతదేశంలోని వివిధ ప్రాంతాలలో వివిధ పేర్లతో పిలుస్తారు. దీనిని కర్ణాటక, ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్, తెలంగాణలో ఉగాది పండుగ అని పిలుస్తారు. మహారాష్ట్ర, డయ్యూ డామన్ లలో గుడి పడ్వా అని పిలుస్తారు.
- ఉగాది ఒక నూతన శకానికి నాంది పలుకుతుంది. శోభాకృత నామ సంవత్సరం ముగిసిపోతోంది. ఉగాది రోజు నుండి క్రోధి నామ సంవత్సరం ప్రారంభమవుతుంది. ఈ హిందూ పురాణాల ప్రకారం, ఉగాది పండుగ రోజే బ్రహ్మదేవుడు విశ్వాన్ని సృష్టించాడని నమ్ముతారు. ఇది వసంత ఋతువుకు స్వాగతం పలికే పండుగ. ఉగాది వచ్చినప్పుడు మొక్కలు, చెట్లు అందంగా చిగుర్లు పెరుగతాయి.
- ఉగాది పండుగకు రెండు, మూడు రోజుల ముందు నుంచే ఈ పండుగకు సన్నాహాలు ప్రారంభమవుతాయి.ఈ పండుగ కోసం ఇంటిని పూర్తిగా శుభ్రపరుచుకోవాలి. పండుగ రోజున మామిడి ఆకులు, పూలతో తోరణాలు కట్టాలి. ఇంటి ముందు రంగురంగుల రంగోలీలు గీయాలి. స్వస్తిక్ చిహ్నాన్ని కచ్చితంగా గీయాలి.
- పండుగ రోజున సూర్యోదయానికి ముందే నిద్రలేవాలి. ఈ రోజున బ్రహ్మ ముహూర్తంలో నిద్రలేవడం శుభప్రదమని నమ్ముతారు. శనగపిండిని శరీరానికి రాసుకుని నూనె స్నానం చేసి కొత్త బట్టలు ధరించాలి. ఇంటిని, పరిసరాలను ఆవు పేడతో శుభ్రం చేయాలి.
- ఉగాది పండుగ అనగానే అందరికీ గుర్తొచ్చేది ఉగాది పచ్చడి. దీన్ని తినే ముందు సూర్యభగవానునికి ప్రత్యేక ప్రార్థనలు చేయాలి.
- ఉగాది రోజు విష్ణువును పూజిస్తే మంచి జరుగుతుంది. ఈ రోజున విష్ణువుకు, బ్రహ్మదేవుడికి ప్రత్యేక పూజలు చేయాలి. ఉదయాన్నే లేచి స్నానం చేసిన తరువాత, చేతుల్లో పువ్వులు, అక్షితలు, గంధం, నీరు పట్టుకుని బ్రహ్మదేవుని మంత్రాలను జపించాలి.
- కార్తికేయుడు, వినాయకుడు సౌభాగ్యాలకు, శ్రేయస్సుకు దేవుళ్లుగా భావిస్తారు. అందువల్ల ఈ దేవతలకు ప్రీతిపాత్రమైన మామిడి తోరణాన్ని ఇంటి గుమ్మానికి అలంకరించాలి. ఇంటి దైవమైన కులదేవుడిని ఈ రోజున పూజిస్తే మంచిది.
- ఉగాది సందర్భంగా భక్తులు ఆయురారోగ్యాలు, సుఖసంతోషాలు, సౌభాగ్యం, విజయం కోసం భగవంతుని ఆశీస్సులు పొందుతారు. దేవాలయాలను సందర్శించి ప్రత్యేక ప్రార్థనలు చేస్తారు. కొందరు ఈ రోజున తమ కొత్త వ్యాపారాలను ప్రారంభిస్తారు. మొత్తం మీద ఏ శుభకార్యానికైనా ఈ రోజు అనువైనది.
- ఉగాది రోజున ప్రత్యేక వంటకం పచ్చడి తయారు చేస్తారు. పచ్చడిని తయారు చేసి కుటుంబ సభ్యులు, చుట్టుపక్కల వారికి పంచుతారు.

ఉగాది పండుగ రోజున తయారు చేసే పచ్చడికి ఎంతో ప్రాధాన్యత ఉంది. ఈ పచ్చడిని పండుగ రోజున ఏ సమయంలో తీసుకోవాలనే వివరాలను కూడా పండితులే చెబుతారు. అయితే దీని తయారీకి ముందు ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ ఉదయాన్నే అభ్యంగన స్నానం చేయాలి. ఆ తర్వాతే పచ్చడిని తయారు చేయడం ఆరంభించాలి. దీన్ని దేవుడికి సమర్పించిన తర్వాతే ఉదయం 8 గంటల నుండి తీసుకోవాలని పండితులు చెబుతున్నారు.
పచ్చడి తీసుకునేందుకు ఉగాది అత్యంత అనుకూలమైన సమయం కాబట్టి, ఈ సమయంలో ‘శతాయు వజ్రదేహాయ సర్వసంపత్కరాయచ, సర్వారిష్ట వినాశాయనింకం దళబక్షణం’ అనే మంత్రాన్ని ప్రత్యేకంగా జపించి ఈ పచ్చడిని తీసుకోవాలి. దీనర్థం.. వందేళ్ల పాటు వజ్రదేహంతో ఎలాంటి కష్టాలు లేకుండా జీవించాలని కోరుకోవడం.

Scholars say it should be taken from 8 a.m. onwards only after it has been submitted to God.
Since Ugadi is the most auspicious time to take the jaggery, the jaggery should be taken especially at this time by chanting the mantra ‘Shatayu Vajradehaya Sarvasampatkarayacha, Sarvarishta Vinashayaninkam Dalabakshanam’.
