Bodhidharma Teaching – The Greatest Zen Master

Bodhidharma was a Buddhist monk who lived during the 5th or 6th century. He is widely known for transmitter of Chan Buddhism to China and regarded as its first Chinese patriarch. According to Chinese sources he began the physical training of the monks of Shaolin Monastery after that led to the creation of Shaolin kungfu.

He is also known in Japan as Daruma. His name means “dharma of awakening (bodhi)” in Sanskrit. Some reports says Bodhidharma was a prince of Kanchipuram state in Southern India (Bharat). He was born in Pallav raj of ancient South India, younger son of King of Kanchipuram.

At the age of 22 he became a monk and moved to China to spread the teachings of Buddhism and later established Shaolin temple.
